Plants that tend to remain short to enable visibility in the aquarium are called foreground plants. These foreground plants normally grow less than 2" tall. They are more light demanding and under less light, tend to grow tall or fade away. The injection of CO2 along with high light promotes faster growth thereby creating a carpet-like appearance in the aquarium. Lesser demanding foreground plants are Echinodorus tenellus, Sagittaria sp. dwarf, Marsilea hirsuta while the more demanding ones are Hemianthus callitricoides 'Cuba', Glossostigma elatinoides and Hemianthus sp. Monte Carlo.
